THE LIBERTINES PLAY SECRET LONDON SHOW THE LIBERTINES played a secret gig at London's Metro Club last night. The recent NME cover stars appeared at Death Disco, a weekly club night hosted by Poptones supremo ALAN MCGEE. Taking to the stage at 12.30am, the East End quartet played an electrifying 25-minute set featuring their Top 40 debut single, 'What A Waster'. The audience, including PARKINSON’S frontman ALFONSO PINTO (aka Al Zheimer), cheered the set, though a few hecklers jeered the murky sound, which rendered some of the vocals inaudible. Libertines frontmen PETE DOHERTY and CARL BARAT ignored any heckles, however, and didn’t address the crowd during the performance. The full set-list was: Horror Show, Up The Bracket, Vertigo, What A Waster, May Day, Time For Heroes, Boys In The Band, I Get Along. A poster announcing the band's appearance had been plastered outside Tottenham Court Road tube station a few hours before the club opened.
